This guide provides step-by-step instructions on the differences between Order Overview and Receipts.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: What is an Order Overview?
The Order Overview is an internal document that shows the details of an order — items, quantities, prices, and fees — before payment has been made. It's marked "This is not a receipt," so it has no legal or tax relevance.
It's useful for you to see what your customers ordered, but it can't be used as proof of purchase for tax purposes.
Step 2: What is a Receipt?
The Receipt is the official, legally valid document that is only created once an order has been paid.
It includes everything the Order Overview has, plus tax-relevant details like tax indicators, taxes, the payment method, a signature, a unique Receipt ID, and the exact creation time.
This is the document that counts for tax authorities and accounting, since it proves an actual, completed, and paid transaction.
Step 3: When do I use which?
Use the Order Overview while an order is still open and unpaid — for example to check items before payment or confirm the order with the kitchen. It's only a working document with no legal or tax relevance. As soon as the order is paid, the system automatically generates the Receipt, which becomes the actual proof of purchase and the tax-relevant document. The Receipt needs to be handed out to your customer.
